Bosnia in Focus: Bosnian Genocide Event
Islam On Campus (IOC) organize an raising awareness event about the Bosnian Genocide that occurred in the early to mid 1990s, one of the most tragic events in our recent history, and stand with the Bosniak people in solidarity. Date: Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 Time: 6:30 pm, Doors open at 6 pm. Location: Rion Ballroom - Reitz Union at UF Background: During the 1992-95 Bosnian War, Serb forces engaged in ethnic cleansing of the Bosniak population, the culmination of which resulted in the Srebrenica Massacre of 1995, which has been declared a Genocide by the International Court of Justice. These tragic events belong to one of Europe's most recent, yet lesser known genocides. The United Human Rights Council estimates that there were as many as 200,000 killed and millions displaced.
